Sade Jackson has been named head women’s basketball coach at Pratt Institute, Athletic Director Walter Rickard announced today.
Jackson arrives in Clinton Hill from Adelphi University, where she served as an assistant coach, and becomes the third head coach at Pratt since the rebirth of women’s basketball.
“Sade Jackson is a rising star in the coaching ranks and we are very excited to have her as our new head women’s basketball coach,” Rickard said. “She is very detail oriented and has proven to be a hard-working and dedicated individual both on and off the court. She will be a tremendous asset as the leader of our program and will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience for her players.”
The Hackensack, New Jersey resident will also serve as an assistant director of events and facilities, overseeing the Activity Resource Center (ARC), Pratt’s on-campus athletic and recreation facility.
“I am extremely excited to be the next head women’s basketball coach at Pratt,” Jackson said. “I would like to thank Walter Rickard, and the rest of the committee, for giving me the opportunity to lead this program. I am looking forward to becoming a part of the Pratt family.”
An Adelphi alumna, Jackson played in 110 games for the Panthers, scoring 1,192 points over the course of her career. The team’s starting point guard for much of her time in Garden City, Jackson is one of 21 players to reach the 1,000-point plateau at Adelphi and graduated as the program’s all-time leader in assists with 673. She was crowned the NCAA Division II statistical champion in assists-per-game in back-to-back seasons, averaging 7.3 in 2012-13 and 8.1 in 2013-14.
A 2014 graduate of Adelphi, Jackson ranks second all-time in steals (249) and fifth in blocks (82), while also sitting in the top 10 in the program’s career records for field goals, games played, three-point field goals attempted and free throws made. Following graduation, Jackson played professionally for one season with Eintracht Braunschwieg in Germany, before returning to her alma mater in 2016 to serve as an assistant under then head coach, Heather Jacobs.
In her one season on the bench, Jackson helped lead Adelphi to an 18-12 overall record, the program’s fourth consecutive winning season, and her recruiting efforts helped Adelphi land the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Player of the Year, Liz Millea.
“I believe Sade will be able to improve upon the success the program experienced in the 2015-16 season,” Rickard added. “I also believe she will be a great addition to our administrative staff.”
Following Pratt’s first appearance in the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament since the rebirth of women’s basketball as an intercollegiate offering, the Cannoneers open the 2016-17 season with a non-conference matchup with Vaughn College at noon, as part of a season-opening doubleheader at the ARC on Saturday, November 12.
