Syracuse University head women’s basketball coach Quentin Hillsman announced that Adeniyi Amadou has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Amadou returns to Syracuse, where he served as the assistant director of basketball operations during the 2009-10 season.
“Adeniyi is regarded as one of the premier recruiters and skill developers of post players in the country,” commented Hillsman. “Adeniyi is a tireless worker and his ability to attract top-tier student-athletes is unquestioned.”
Most recently, Amadou served as an assistant coach for the Kentucky women’s basketball program for the last two years. The Wildcats advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament each of the past two seasons, including a trip to the 2016 regional semifinal.
A native of Paris, Amadou came to Kentucky after four years on the Dayton coaching staff, where he worked with post players and scouting and recruiting. While with the Flyers, Amadou helped the team to at least 23 victories each season and back-to-back Atlantic 10 regular-season titles.
“His recruiting reach is international,” added Hillsman. “I believe his largest asset to our recruiting base will be in our recruitment of international prospects.”
Prior to Dayton, he spent the 2009-10 campaign with the Orange. Syracuse registered a 25-11 overall record, which included a trip to the WNIT quarterfinals. It marked the furthest the program had advanced in postseason play in its history.
Amadou started his collegiate playing career for the Black Knights of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania and led his team in offensive rebounding as a senior.
He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from IUP and earned a master’s degree from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Amadou is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in mass communication from the Newhouse School.
