Montana Tech Adds Assistant

Montana Tech women’s head basketball coach Carly Sanon announced the hiring of new assistant coach D’shara Strange today. And if you follow Big Sky Conference women’s basketball, her name may be familiar to you.

“I am honored to have D’shara apart of our staff,” said head coach Sanon. “As a standout NCAA Division I player, she knows what it takes to play at a high level and I know she will instill those principles to our student-athletes.”

Strange, originally from Fountain, Colo. near Colorado Springs, played collegiately at Northern Colorado from 2011-15. The 5-foot-10 guard was a major contributor since her freshman year for the Bears. She was named Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year and received a conference honorable mention nod leading her team with 6.5 rebounds and averaging 11.2 points a game.

In her career, Strange was selected Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year twice in addition to three first team All-Conference selections and Co-Big Sky MVP her senior year. She also earned Player of the Week honors 13 different times. In 2015, she was named the Colorado Sportswoman of the Year.

During her senior season, Strange set the all-time scoring (1,891) and rebound (1,039) marks for the Bears. She also set the single season record for steals (104) and rebounds (314) that year.

Strange earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree with an emphasis in Sport Administration. She was named Academic All-Conference twice during her playing career.

“She represents everything that Montana Tech and Oredigger Basketball stands for. She is very knowledgeable of the game and eager to learn more.”

“I could not be more excited to have the privilege of being a part of the Digger family and working with incredible individuals on a daily basis,” said Strange.
