Kenny Parham Chosen to Lead NYIT Women’s Basketball Program

NYIT Athletics welcomes Kenny Parham as the seventh Head Women’s Basketball Coach, effective July 18, announced by Duane Bailey, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation.

“We are extremely fortunate and thrilled to have identified an exceptional person and coach, Kenny Parham to be our next Head Women’s Basketball Coach,” said Bailey. “Kenny is a very skilled and experienced basketball coach who has a track record of success both on and off the court and is an ideal fit for NYIT. He has a proven vision, plan and knows how to recruit regionally, nationally and internationally which will translate very well to NYIT.”

Parham’s coaching journey was established in 1992 when he took on a role as the Dowling College Men’s Assistant Basketball Coach while operating as a fifth grade teacher in the Bay Shore Union Free School District. From 1994 to present day, the Dix Hills resident bounced around at the high school varsity levels, at Bay Shore and Saint Anthony’s before settling in as the women’s varsity basketball coach in 2009. In 2010 he also started a travel AAU Program – Riverside Church Hawks- that turned into one of the most successful girls’ basketball programs in the country.

“I would like to thank the players, parents and administration at St Anthony’s for everything they’ve done for me to get to this point,” commented Parham. “It’s been nothing but a wonderful experience and because of that I can now move on to New York Institute of Technology.”

From then on he brought the Friars from an “obscurity to a national powerhouse”, winning three New York State Catholic Champion titles and four NSCHSAA Long Island Championships. Under the direction of Parham, he stopped a 23-year drought by becoming the first state-championship team since 1987 the first NSCHSAA title team since 1988.

Throughout the success, his staff sent several scholar-athletes to play at every level of NCAA, including Bucknell, Seton Hall, Sacred Heart, Towson and Molloy College, just to name a few. St. Anthony’s began to receive consistent rankings in the top 20 in the tri-state area according to MSG Varsity and national rankings courtesy of ESPN.

“I would like to thank NYIT Director of Athletics, Duane Bailey, the administration and entire search committee for welcoming me with open arms and I cannot wait to embark on this new adventure,” he continued. “I’m looking forward to being part of the NYIT community and athletic department.”

Parham received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in history with a minor in educations from Dowling College prior to earning his Masters of Science in School Counseling from Long Island University- C.W. Post in 1997.
