Raymer to Lead Chadron State Women’s Basketball Program

Chadron State College Director of Athletics Joel R. Smith announced Janet Raymer as the Eagles’ head women’s basketball coach on Tuesday morning.

“Being an alumna, Janet’s passion for and dedication to our athletic department is unquestionable,” said Smith. “Her familiarity with our program and her desire to see Chadron State be successful in women’s basketball were key reasons for selecting her for the position.”

Raymer has been involved in the day-to-day affairs of the CSC women’s basketball program for the past two years, serving as the coaching assistant. While assisting the Eagles, she has been actively involved in recruiting high school athletes in the high school and junior college ranks. So far this offseason she has signed two-time NJCAA Region IX rebounding champ Kendra Baucom, as well as twin Sandhills forwards Avery and Madison Taylor, and WNCC transfer Kalli Feddersen, a CSC legacy.

Raymer also served as tournament director for the CSC Hoop Shoot, and directed CSC girls’ basketball camps. In addition to assisting with practices, scouting, and in-game coaching, she had a part in most of the details of the program including academics, travel, and fund-raising.

“I’d like to say thanks to Dr. Randy Rhine and Joel, as well as the hiring committee for the opportunity,” said Raymer. “It’s an exciting time at Chadron State College.”

Prior to taking the position at Chadron State, Raymer served as the head girls’ basketball coach and assistant boys’ basketball coach at her alma mater Hay Springs High School just 19 miles outside of Chadron.

She previously served the CSC program as a volunteer assistant from 2011-2012, when the program produced its most recent Academic All-American, Kaitlin Petri.

During her ascent into coaching, Raymer held a product demonstration position with technology firm Fiserv, based out of Lincoln, which began shortly after her graduation from CSC in 2003.

Raymer earned four letters on the Chadron State basketball team, starting at guard her final two seasons. As a senior in 2002-03, Raymer averaged 5.6 points, led the team in both steals and assists and was chosen by her teammates as both the best defensive player and the most valuable player.

She was a standout, all-around athlete at Hay Springs High School, scoring a record 1,419 points for the basketball team and qualifying for the state track meet all four years. She placed fourth in the Class D long jump at the state meet her junior year with a mark of 17-4 ½.

“We’ll look close to home to fill the roster,” added Raymer, “while welcoming quality student-athletes from anywhere. The main goal is to move the program forward and put ourselves into position to compete in the RMAC. It will take time to get there, but I’m more than motivated to do the work.”
