Bill Foy has had a memorable first season at Ranger College.
In August of last year, the former men’s basketball coach at Paris Junior College signed on to be the men’s and women’s golf coach. A few months later, he was inducted into the PJC Athletic Hall of Fame. In March, he assisted the Rangers’ men’s basketball team to a Final Four finish at the NJCAA national tournament. Last week, he guided the 17th-ranked RC men’s golf team to its first-ever trip to the NJCAA national tournament.
Little did he know, there was still another page to be turned.
Foy added another page to his coaching resume on Wednesday morning, April 20, when Ranger College president Dr. William J. Campion announced he would assume the head coaching duties for the women’s basketball program.
“We are very fortunate to have a someone who has won a national championship to come in and coach our women’s program,” said Campion. “We’re extremely excited to have a man with his credentials come in. In no way can this promotion to be viewed as anything but positive for our women’s program and our institution.”
Foy will be taking over a Ranger College women’s team that finished the 2015-16 season at 11-15, including a 3-11 mark in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be the women’s basketball coach at Ranger College,” said Foy, who guided the Paris Junior College men’s to more than 200 wins and the 2005 national title. “I appreciate Coach (Billy) Gillispie and Dr. Campion giving me this opportunity. I’m excited about getting started and helping create a winning culture.”
Foy brings a wealth of winning experience the Lady Rangers’ program. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Foy compiled a 227-125 record during his 11-year tenure as head coach of the Paris Junior College Dragons basketball team. While at PJC, Foy was twice named Region XIV Coach of the Year. In 2005, after leading the Dragons to the national championship, he was named the NJCAA Coach of the Year, as well as the NABC and TABC Coach of the Year.
Prior to coming to Ranger, Foy also was the men’s coach at Richland College, where he compiled a 46-18 record. Before Richland, he was an assistant coach at the University of North Texas helping the Mean Green to a 127-68 record and two NCAA tournament appearances.
