A new Women’s Basketball Coach has been named at Iowa Lakes Community College.
Iowa Lakes Director of Athletics Troy Larson announced today that Ashley Martin will become the new Head Women’s Basketball Coach pending board approval. She will also take over the role of sports marketing.
Martin is no stranger to Iowa Lakes. She first worked at Iowa Lakes in 2008 as one of the first Graduate Assistants the college hired.
“We warmly welcome Ashley in her new position as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Iowa Lakes,” said Larson. “She has an exceptional basketball mind and really cares about student athletes. She will have great relationships with our players and be an outstanding mentor for them. I’m looking forward to seeing our women’s basketball program under her direction.”
Most recently, Martin has been working the past seven years as an Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Des Moines Area Community College.
Martin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science. She played basketball three years at NCAA Division II Upper Iowa and one year at DMACC. While at Iowa Lakes, she completed a Master’s degree in Higher Education from Iowa State University.
“I am excited for this opportunity to develop relationships with the young women of the Iowa Lakes Women’s Basketball program and help them succeed on – and off – the floor,” commented Martin. “I appreciate all the mentors who have encouraged me and helped to prepare me to step into this role.”
“I also want to thank Troy Larson, Julie Williams and President Newhouse for their support as I launch the next chapter of my career,” Martin said. “I greatly enjoyed my time working in athletics at Iowa Lakes as a Graduate Assistant and I’m excited to return to the college and the community.”
