Syracuse head women’s basketball Quentin Hillsman has announced that former WNBA player Tammi Reiss has joined his staff as an assistant coach. Reiss brings a wealth of experience to the Orange, having coached at the collegiate and professional level.

“Tammi has played and coached at the highest levels,” Hillsman said. “Her experience, work ethic and passion to develop athletes make her one of the top assistant coaches in the game at any level. We are very fortunate to have such a well-rounded, highly-touted player and coach join our program.

Reiss comes to Syracuse after spending the past two seasons as the associate head coach at Cal State Fullerton. She served as the Titans’ recruiting coordinator and was responsible for game and practice preparation, player development with emphasis on guard play and conducted the off-season conditioning program.

From 2011-13, Reiss was an assistant coach at San Diego State where she helped guide the Aztecs to two Mountain West regular-season titles, the 2012 conference tournament crown, one NCAA Tournament appearance as well as an appearance in the WNIT. She mentored Courtney Clements, the 2012 conference Player of the Year, and Chelsea Hopkins, who earned the 2011-12 Mountain West Newcomer of the Year award and then was named the league’s Player of the Year in 2012-13.

Prior to working at San Diego State, Reiss served as an assistant coach for the WNBA’s Utah Starzz. During her stint in Utah the Starzz made the playoffs in 2001 and advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 2002.

Reiss was an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Virginia. She helped guide the Cavaliers to two ACC regular-season titles and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including two trips to the Elite Eight.

The 1992 Virginia graduate earned All-America honors in 1991 and 1992. Reiss was a four-year starter for the Cavaliers and led the squad to three Final Four appearances, three ACC regular-season titles and two ACC Tournament championships. She earned All-ACC honors three times and was selected to the ACC All-Tournament Team twice. She ended her career ranked first in school history in three-pointers (139) and three-point field goal percentage (.416) and was second in points (1,842) and free throws (437).

Reiss was the fifth overall pick in the 1997 WNBA by the Starzz. She played two seasons for Utah, serving as team captain.
