Dickran Parunak Named Assistant Coach at Presbyterian

The Presbyterian College women’s basketball team has named Dickran Parunak to its coaching staff, head coach Ronny Fisher announced Tuesday.

“We are excited to add Dickran to our basketball staff,” said Fisher. “Dickran is a quality person who values the same high standards that our program is built on. He has a tremendous work ethic and brings a high energy level that reflects what we demand from our players. In addition, through his years of experience, Dickran has developed a great feel for the game and will certainly add a lot to our staff. Dickran and his wife Kristin have a great deal to offer and we are blessed to have them join the Presbyterian College community.”

Prior to coming to Presbyterian, Parunak served as the Director of Basketball Operations at UNC Asheville for one season.  He was responsible for all scouting of opponents, film breakdown and other film needs. He also coordinated all aspects of team travel and alumni outreach, while assisting with equipment management and recruiting efforts.

Parunak joined UNC Asheville after serving as Associate Head Coach at the Apprentice School (Newport News, Va.), for the past six seasons. In his six years, the Apprentice School boasted an overall record of 101-58 and rose to one of the top USCAA programs in the country. As the associate head coach, he was involved in every aspect of the program and guided the Lady Builders to the USCAA Final Four in 2013-14. The team ended the season with an overall record of 22-5 and a final national ranking of 3rd. Parunak was also instrumental in recruiting and developing five players that finished their careers with All-American honors.

Parunak came to the Lady Builders following a one-year stint at NCAA Division II Coker College. Prior to Coker, he coached the UNC Chapel Hill Women’s Basketball Club team for three years where they won a regular season title, finished second twice and was tournament runner-up twice.

Parunak graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2000 and obtained his master’s degree in adult education from the University of Phoenix.

He is married to the former Kristin Kidd, an assistant women’s basketball coach at Mars Hill University and a former Blue Hose women’s basketball player (2006-08).
