Director of Athletics Chasse Conque has announced a new contract for head women’s basketball coach Joe Foley. Foley, who was recently a finalist for the head coaching position at Kansas, has agreed to terms that include an improved financial package and will keep him at UALR through the 2023-24 season.
“I said last week that we were committed to keeping Joe Foley in Little Rock, and these new terms are a reflection of that commitment,” Conque said. “The women’s basketball program plays a crucial role in the success of our department as a whole. Over the last 12 years, Joe has taken it to unprecedented heights. He and his staff deserve to be compensated accordingly. We look forward to many more years of championship-caliber basketball with him as our head coach.”
New contract terms for Foley include an immediate base salary increase of $53,000, with scheduled raises over the next four years that will bring his base salary to $250,000. Foley’s deal includes an additional $15,000 for the head coach’s radio show, bringing his total compensation to $265,000 by 2018.
A substantial increase to the program’s salary pool for assistant coaches will also be put into effect for the 2015-16 season. Additional increases to the salary pool are scheduled for the following two seasons.
“I’m excited about this new contract and the commitment it shows to women’s basketball on the part of the University,” Foley said. “I’d like to thank Chancellor Joel Anderson, Chasse Conque and everyone else who helped make this possible. I came to Little Rock 12 years ago because I thought we had a chance to build something special. We’ve been fortunate enough to accomplish some great things here. With that said, I look forward to the future of Trojan basketball and believe its best days are ahead.”
Foley and UALR are coming off a 2014-15 season that saw the team win a program-record 29 games while making its fourth NCAA Tournament appearance in six years. In addition to beating perennial powers LSU and Oklahoma in the non-conference portion of its schedule, UALR won Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles as Foley was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the third time in his 12 years in Little Rock.
The Trojans went on to beat Texas A&M in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Tempe, Ariz., to give Foley his 700th career victory and second NCAA Tournament win at UALR.
Over the last nine years, Foley’s teams have eight 20-wins seasons and seven postseason appearances to their credit. The Trojans have won three Sun Belt Tournament titles and six division titles over the same span.
“Our commitment to Joe Foley and our women’s basketball program is unwavering,” Conque said. “I am grateful to those that have pledged their financial support to help us sustain championship basketball in Little Rock. I feel we have just scratched the surface, and we look forward to continuing to build awareness for Little Rock’s Team.”
