The University of San Diego has announced that head women’s basketball coach Cindy Fisher has received a multi-year contract extension. Fisher, the 2012 WCC Coach of the Year, helped guide the Toreros to their best season in program history, as the team set several records including most wins in program history (26), surpassing the 21-win record Fisher’s 06-07 team had set, a second place finish in the WCC with the most wins in West Coast Conference play (12), and the team also reached the Final Four of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament. Under her tutelage this season, USD recorded their first ever postseason win, as they defeated Cal State Northridge and Pacific in the first two rounds of the WNIT at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, before going on the road to defeat Texas Tech, and the University of Washington to reach the Final Four. In the semifinal game, the Toreros had a valiant effort come short, as they lost to eventual WNIT champion Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
