Morrisville State names head coach

Morrisville State College athletic director, Greg Carroll, has named Steven Kaneshiki the head coach of the women’s basketball program for the 2012-2013 season.

Kaneshiki comes to Morrisville State from The College at Brockport where he served as assistant coach for the past season, serving as recruiting coordinator while working with the post players and assisting with day-to-day operations of the program.

Prior to joining the Golden Eagles, Kaneshiki served as the head coach of the women’s program at Cumberland County College for three straight seasons.

During his stint with the Dukes, Cumberland achieved its first back-to-back winning season in program history, including a school record setting 21-win mark in 2009-10, while achieving the program’s first NJCAA national ranking. Aside from progress on the court, Kaneshiki’s student-athletes also earned several academic accolades, including NJCAA Academic All-American and Region XIX All-Academic Team honors.

Kaneshiki began his coaching career at Cumberlands in 2002 before leaving the Dukes to serve as Washington (MD) College’s assistant women’s basketball coach during the 2005-06 season. He followed with a stint as the assistant coach role at Rutgers (NJ) University for the 2006-07 season before returning to Washington to serve as the interim head coach the following year.

Kaneshiki obtained his bachelor’s degree in sport/leisure management with a minor in business from Elon University in 1999. Aside from overseeing the women’s program at Morrisville State, he will also serve as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor.
