Aurora University has announced the hiring of Brittany Carper as the new head coach of the AU women’s basketball program.

"I’m happy to announce today that Brittany Carper has accepted the position of head women’s basketball coach at Aurora University," AU Athletic Director Jim Hamad said. "Brittany has been a vital piece of successful collegiate programs and was a gifted player herself. Through our discussions it was apparent that Brittany was ready and eager to lead our program and I’m thrilled that we were able to bring her on board."

Carper becomes the program’s 17th head coach. She arrives at AU after two seasons as an assistant coach at Carthage College. While at Carthage, she assisted in leading the women’s program to their first CCIW Championship in 2013 and back to back NCAA Division III national tournament appearances including a run to the Elite 8 in 2012. Carthage went 47-13 in her two years as an assistant.

A native of Sioux City, Iowa, Carper was an assistant coach for the Quincy University women’s basketball team for four seasons from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, she served as a volunteer assistant coach at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2005-06 season. Carper graduated from Morningside College in 2005 with a degree in business administration and finance. She received her master’s in educational leadership from Quincy in 2010.

Carper was a four-year member of the basketball team at Morningside and was named the NAIA Division II Player of the Year in 2004 after leading the Mustangs to the first of two national championship with a 21.5 scoring average, 5.8 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 4.0 steals per game. She was also named the Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2004, NAIA All-American in both 2004 and 2005, and ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2005.
