West Virginia Hires Assistant

West Virginia University women’s basketball coach Mike Carey today announced the hiring of Sharrona Reaves as an assistant coach on the Mountaineer staff.

Familiar with the Mountaineer traditions, Reaves returns to the women’s staff after serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator under Carey from 2003-06. In her previous three seasons with the Mountaineer program, Reaves helped recruit two top-20 recruiting classes, including the signing of Mountaineer standout Olayinka Sanni, who went on to win a WNBA title with the Detroit Shock. She helped WVU to the Big East Conference Tournament finals in 2006, assisted in the WNIT finals in 2005 and was part of back-to-back 20-win seasons in 2004 and 2005. In addition to 21 wins in 2004, the Mountaineers advanced to the NCAA tournament for the first time since the 1992 season.
