Heidorf resigns at UMPI

University of Maine-Presque Isle women’s basketball coach and Sports Information Director Marc Heidorf has resigned from the position he has held over the previous two seasons.

"This is largely a personal decision," said Heidorf, "I have enjoyed my time in Presque Isle. We welcomed a daughter to our clan this year. An opportunity was presented where I could advance my professional career while giving her a chance to meet and grow up with her extended family."

Heidorf guided the Lady Owls basketball team through the athletic department’s first two seasons as both NCAA and USCAA independents.

This past season, the Lady Owls began 0-8 with a rookie-dominated roster, but as the calendar turned to 2013 the squad started to gel. They began the new year by going 5-2 and played .500 ball after the rough start. With only one graduating senior and UMPI women’s teams joining the Great South Athletic Conference next season, Heidorf thinks the future is bright for the Owls.

"I am confident that we got both the basketball program and sports information department moving in the right direction. More good things are right around the corner."

"We are sad to see Marc go" said UMPI interim-Athletic Director Paul Stone, "he accomplished alot in his two years in Presque isle. As the Sports Information Director he helped launch a new athletics website and introduced live streaming of our basketball games this past winter. His energy and expertise will be missed."

Stone added that a nationwide search for a replacement will begin immediately.
