Georgia Southern women’s basketball coach Chris Vozab announced today that Chris Gillett will join her staff as an assistant coach.
Gillett comes to Georgia Southern from nearby Armstrong Atlantic in Savannah, where he served as the graduate assistant coach on the women’s basketball staff under Matt Schmidt for the last two seasons. The Pirates were 13-14 last season and 13-13 in 2011-12. They play in the highly-competitive Peach Belt Conference, which sent three teams to the Division II NCAA Tournament in 2012 and two in 2013.
“Chris brings quality on-court coaching experience and excellent organizational skills to our staff,” said Vozab. “His energy level will motivate our players and push them to be their best. We’re excited to have him become a part of the Georgia Southern women’s basketball family.”
Gillett joined Armstrong from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich., where he graduated in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in sport leadership. He served as a student assistant for the Lakers’ women’s basketball squad during his junior and senior seasons under head coach Janel Burgess.
A native of Pellston, Mich., and a graduate of Pellston High School, Gillett also interned with the Detroit Pistons Summer Camps and Clinics program in 2010, traveling throughout the state of Michigan to direct four daylong basketball camps.
He received his master’s degree in adult education and community leadership from Armstrong this past May.
