Old Dominion University athletic director Dr. Wood Selig announced today that women’s basketball coach Karen Barefoot has received a new five-year contract that extends through the 2017-18 season.
Barefoot completed her second year at the helm of the Lady Monarch program, leading the team to a 9-3 start in non-conference action in 2012-13, posting a 19-12 record and earning a berth in the National Women’s Invitation Tournament. Lady Monarch center Shae Kelley was named to the CAA All Conference (the only underclassman named to the team) and All Defensive squads, while rising sophomore Galaisha Goodhope was named to the All-Rookie team. Barefoot has also made enormous strides in the classroom with the squad earning a 2.94 GPA this past spring, and is well known for her national recruiting efforts and commitments.
