The Johnson C. Smith University department of athletics has announced Shenika Worthy as the associate head women’s basketball coach. Worthy, along with head coach Stephen Joyner, Jr., start off a new regime of JCSU women’s basketball for the 2012-13 season. She is no stranger to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) after spending the last two seasons (2010-12) serving under Joyner, Jr. at Winston-Salem State University as the assistant women’s basketball coach.
Worthy brings a wealth of basketball knowledge and experience, both as a coach and a player. Prior to spending the last two seasons on the Lady Rams coaching staff, she began her collegiate coaching career at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) as a graduate assistant for the Lady Eagles (2004-06). Worthy has also been abroad and gained international experience as a head coach for Western and Eastern European Junior Women’s Basketball Teams in Switzerland, Romania, Luxembourg, and Slovakia (2003-09).
