Women’s basketball returns to Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) for the 2025-2026 season, marking an exciting new chapter for the college’s athletics. Leading the program’s resurgence is Melvin Patterson, who has been appointed Interim Head Coach. With an impressive coaching career spanning more than a decade, Patterson is ready to bring his expertise, passion, and commitment to the P&HCC Patriots.
Patterson brings a wealth of experience from both high school and club basketball. His extensive resume reflects a strong dedication to developing athletes both on and off the court:
Coaching Highlights
· Bassett High School (3 Years): JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant
· Franklin County High School (6 Years):
- JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant (3 years)
- Head Girls Basketball Coach (4 years), leading the team to 13+ wins in two seasons, 2 regional tournament berths, and a team GPA of 3.34. Under his leadership, 9 seniors graduated, with 4 playing collegiate basketball.
· Carlisle School Girls Varsity Basketball (2 Years):
- 2023-2024 VISAA Division 3 State Champions with a 25-11 record.
- Notable success in conference play (7-1) under mentorship from Head Coach Jason Niblett.
· 804 Team Loaded (2 Years): Coached on the Adidas Circuit Basketball for 15U and 17U teams.
· CP3 Camp Coaching Staff:
- CP3 National Middle School Combine (2023 & 2024)
- CP3 Rising Stars National Camp (2024)
Brian Henderson, P&HCC director of athletics, expressed his confidence in Patterson’s ability to rebuild the women’s basketball program. “We’re honored to have Coach Patterson lead this new era for P&HCC women’s basketball,” said Henderson. “His track record speaks for itself—state championships, regional tournament appearances, and his commitment to academic success among his athletes. Coach Patterson also shared his excitement about taking on this new role: “I am deeply humbled and excited to join Patrick & Henry Community College as the Interim Head Coach for women’s basketball. This program has immense potential, and I’m committed to building a strong foundation that emphasizes growth, perseverance, and teamwork. I look forward to working with the student-athletes to achieve excellence both athletically and academically.”
The P&HCC women’s basketball program will officially tip off in the fall of 2025, with plans for recruitment already underway.
