Winthrop staff update

Winthrop head coach Kevin Cook has added two assistants and a DBO to his staff.

Liberty Del Rosario has been hired as an assistant. (http://www.winthropeagles.com/news/2012/8/7/WBB_0807124645.a…) Del Rosario comes to the Lady Eagle program after spending the past season at Eastern Michigan University. Del Rosario was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Eastern Michigan University this past season. She helped lead the Eagles to a MAC West Division championship and a conference tournament championship. Eastern Michigan ended their season (23-9 overall) with a loss to South Carolina in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Prior to Eastern Michigan, Del Rosario served as an assistant at Morgan State University. In her first season at MSU, the Bears had a 17-15 record and finished second in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference with a 10-6 mark. As a reward for their season-long efforts, the squad earned the program’s first ever Division I postseason appearance with a trip to the Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).

Del Rosario spent four seasons on the sidelines at Cleveland State University helping the program become a perennial contender in the Horizon League. She began as the team’s director of basketball operations (2006-2009) before being promoted to assistant coach for the 2009-2010 campaign. Del Rosario helped CSU return to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three seasons in 2009-2010. Cleveland State went 19-14 overall, marking the third straight year the Vikings won 19 contests. Seeded fourth in the league tournament, the Vikings defeated University of Illinois-Chicago, top-seeded Phoenix of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and second seeded Butler University to earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

When hired in 2006-2007, Del Rosario had the distinction of being the first-ever director of basketball operations in program history. She was responsible for coordinating all the team’s administrative duties including travel, meals, summer camps, personal matters and community relations.

Matthew Huddleston has also been na,ed as an assistant ( http://www.winthropeagles.com/news/2012/8/8/WBB_0808121208.a…). Huddleston has spent the last 19 years working with the Georgia Metros Athletic Foundation, which is one of top AAU programs in the country. His experience has been in AAU basketball as he’s been the Director of Coaching as well as a head coach until accepting the position with the Lady Eagle basketball program.

During his time with the Georgia Metros, Huddleston had the pleasure of coaching such star collegiate players as Maya Moore (Connecticut), Kelley Cain (Tennessee), Morgan Toles (Auburn/Florida State), Jordan Greenleaf (Auburn), Elan Brown (Vanderbilt), Kayla Lewis (Florida) and D’Andra Moss (Virginia Commonwealth). During his tenure Huddleston helped coach 25 AAU All-Americans, 12 NIKE All-Americans, four McDonalds High School All-Americans, one NCAA National Player of the Year and over 100 players that earned scholarships in college.

As director of coaching, Huddleston was implemental in the development of several programs that included leadership development, SAT preparation courses, skills camps and an NCAA recruiting course for parents and amateur athletes.

Finally, Kenneth Proctor has been added as the director of basketball operations (http://www.winthropeagles.com/news/2012/8/9/WBB_0809125331.a…). In 2011-12, Proctor was an intern for the Winthrop women’s basketball program. He’s also spent the last six years at Rock Hill High School, where he coached four sports during his six year stay. He also earned a M.S. in sport management from the U.S. Sports Academy over that span. Prior to his stint at Rock Hill H.S., he was an assistant coach at Charleston Southern University in 2004 with the football program.

Proctor played football at Newberry College and North Greenville College, along with the addition of rugby at the University of South Carolina. In 2000, Proctor graduated from South Carolina with a B.A. in art history. He is a native of Orangeburg, S.C. where he graduated from Orangeburg Preparatory School.
