Calvin College accepted Chuck Winkelman’s resignation from his position as head women’s basketball coach today, citing the lack of overall fit between the coach and the program.

“We feel this decision is in the best interest of the college, our student athletes, and Coach Winkelman,” said Cheryl Brandsen, provost of Calvin College. “We ask that the media respect the privacy of our students during this time, and we note that we will make no further comments on this personnel matter.”

Winkelman had been the head coach at Calvin since May 2016. He had spent the previous six years as the head women’s basketball coach at Millsaps College in Mississippi.

Assistant coach Austin Randel will take over as interim head coach effective immediately.

Calvin is currently 8-8 (3-4) so far this season.
