Mountaineer athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Western Colorado alumni Carra Jackson-Brown, as the new assistant women’s basketball coach.
Head coach Adam Jacobson is excited to have Jackson-Brown join his staff and had this to say about her.
“I couldn’t be more excited to get to work with Carra, she brings with her a great work ethic, knowledge of the game, and great energy! Carra’s ability to connect with student-athletes is second to none and she has showed a great ability to recruit, both of which will make her a great addition to our staff here at Western Colorado!”
Jackson-Brown is very familiar with the women’s basketball program, playing for the Mountaineers from 2014-18. Over the last three years, Jackson has been at Park (Ariz.) University Gilbert as its assistant women’s basketball coach where she was in charge of being the program’s recruiting coordinator, as well as overseeing the team’s defensive strategy and scouting.
Additionally, she worked closely with academic support to make sure players stayed on track academically. The Buccaneers were an NAIA Scholar Team last season posting a 3.25 team GPA.
Jackson-Brown graduated from Western in 2018 with two Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and exercise sport science. During her time at Western, she was a starter in three of her four seasons and was named team captain her senior campaign. Jackson played a big role in the overall improvement of the program and helped the team increase its win total in each of her last three seasons. Jackson also earned an All-American award from the National Strength and Conditioning Association due to her impressive efforts in the weight room.
She is originally from Aurora, Colo., and attended Rangeview High School. While at Rangeview, she was awarded the Female Athlete of the Year Award in 2014 as a two-sport athlete in basketball and track.
