WBU names new coach

Alesha Robertson has been named head coach of the Wayland Baptist University Flying Queens, according to WBU Athletics Director Dr. Greg Feris.

A press conference will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the lobby of Hutcherson Center, immediately followed by a reception in the WBU Athletics Hall of Honor, located downstairs just off the gymnasium floor. The public is invited to attend both events.

Robertson returns to Plainview where she helped the Plainview High School Lady Bulldogs win three consecutive Class 4A state titles from 2001-03. The four-time all-state player went on to play four seasons for the Texas Tech University Lady Raiders. She spent the past two seasons as head girls’ basketball coach at Lubbock Christian High School, this past season guiding the Lady Eagles to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) Class 3A state championship. Robertson also serves as director of Hoop55, a basketball league based in Lubbock.

Robertson becomes the 13th head coach in the history of the Flying Queens. She replaces Tory Bryant, who recently resigned after six seasons.
