WBB Daily Dirt – 3/21/12

Here are a few things that I’ve heard….

Arizona State head coach Charli Turner Thorne will be returning to work next week. Before the season, she took a leave of absence and there was a lot of speculation that she would not return. ASU just wrapped up its season going 20-12 and making it to the WNIT. Assistant Joseph Anders coached the team in her absence and is expected to return to his role as an assistant. In 16 seasons at ASU, Thorne is 289-179, making her the all-time WBB wins leader.

It sounds like Hagerstown CC has acted quickly to replace Marlys Palmer who retired following the season. I’ve heard that Vicky Bullett will be the choice at HCC. Bullett has an impressive resume. She won three ACC titles as a player at Maryland, played in the 1992 Olympics, and spent three years in the WNBA. She will replace Palmer who spent 33 years at the school.

Texas women’s athletic director Chris Plonsky has said that she has a “short list” when discussing possible replacements for head coach Gail Goestenkors who resigned on Monday. There is no timetable on the search, but it sounds like the administration wants someone who is “hungry” and can come in and kill it on the recruiting trail. We’ll keep you updated as this high profile search continues.

Look for some news to come out of Ball State in the next few days. Rumors are swirling about the future of head coach Kelly Packard. AD Tim Collins has not done anything to quell the rumors of a possible change.
