Waskow adds Eric Gruber to Coe College Women’s Basketball Staff

Head Women’s Basketball coach Kayla Waskow announced the addition of Eric Gruber to her staff in mid-June. Gruber joins the Kohawk staff after spending one season on the bench at Loras College where he helped the Duhawks reach the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament prior to its cancellation.

“I am very excited to add Coach Gruber to our staff,” said Waskow. “He was a Division III athlete and has also coached at two different Division III institutions, so he has a great understanding of what it takes to be successful at our level. He will be a great fit for our team and the Coe community. We look forward to him getting started.”

Eric also served as the graduate assistant coach for the women’s basketball team at North Central College for the past two seasons. He was an assistant coach with the men’s and women’s golf teams during the 2016-17 season. In addition to his role at North Central, Gruber served as the head coach for the Chicago Lockdown, an AAU program, for three seasons.

Gruber was a four-year member of the Cardinals’ men’s golf program from 2012-2016 and competed in three College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Championship tournaments, highlighted by a 17th-place finish as a junior in 2015. He led the team with a career-best stroke average of 78.43 as a senior.

Gruber graduated from North Central in spring 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast communication and a master’s degree in leadership studies, with an emphasis in sports leadership in 2019.
