Villanova’s Harry Perretta Wins #700

Villanova University head women’s basketball coach Harry Perretta won his 700th career game on Sunday with the Wildcats thrilling 63-60 comeback win over the Georgetown Hoyas. With the victory, Villanova improves to 17-10 overall and 10-6 in Big East play, while Georgetown falls to 14-12 overall and 7-9 in league play.

Perretta becomes the 10th active and 14th overall Division I women’s basketball coach to win 700 career games and just the third active Division I women’s coach to win 700 games at one school. The other two are Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma and Robin Selvig from the University of Montana. He also becomes the 25th women’s coach across all divisions to win 700 games.

The victory was also Perretta’s 300th Big East regular season win making him just the fourth coach in the history of the Big East Conference to achieve this feat. Syracuse men’s coach Jim Boeheim leads the way with 416 Big East wins, followed by Connecticut’s Geno Auriemma with 402 victories and former Connecticut men’s coach Jim Calhoun who had 309 league wins.
