Northeastern women’s basketball Head Coach Bridgette Mitchell excitedly introduced Alex Varlan to the Huskies’ staff on Friday. Varlan will join the team as an Assistant Coach.

His innovation and creativity will help us greatly in our recruiting efforts, he comes from a winning background, and has received great tutelage under coaches like Pat Summit, said Mitchell. His background in scouting and analytics will have an immediate impact, and his personality will be a great fit for my vision for the program.”
- Varlan arrives at Northeastern after a working as a Director of Scouting and Analytics at the University of Tennessee since 2017. He was responsible for all scouting efforts for upcoming opponents as well as evaluation of potential recruits.
- Prior to working at the University of Tennessee, Varlan was the Director of Scouting and Recruiting Innovations for men’s basketball at Oakland University (2014-2017).
- Varlan also previously was a Basketball Operations Coordinator for the Delaware 87ers (2013-2014), where he served as liaison between the team and the Philadelphia 76ers. His day-to-day also consisted of creating analytical reports for the coaching staff and scouting videos of opponents and player development clips.
- Was a Basketball Operations Intern for the 76ers (2013).
- Varlan graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies in 2013.
