Ohio Christian University named Lauryn VanHoose as the new head coach for the women’s basketball program. Additionally, VanHoose will be teaching in the Business and Sport Business Management department. She will also be starting fresh with her coaching staff going into the offseason and towards the 2022-23 season.
Coach VanHoose comes to OCU following a season of being a student assistant for the women’s basketball team at Heidelberg University. VanHoose recently received her bachelor’s degree in Sport Management and Business from Heidelberg in 2021 and will complete her master’s degree in Business Administration in July of this year.
“I would like to thank Ohio Christian University for giving me this opportunity, as well as Dr. Kulaga and Mr. Arroyo Jr.” said Coach VanHoose. “I would also like to thank my family and friends for supporting me throughout the years.”
As previously stated, VanHoose became a volunteer student assistant coach for her women’s basketball team at Heidelberg after graduating in 2021 and playing in her senior season with her fellow Student Princes where she obtained three Academic All-OAC awards. Prior to her assistant coaching stint, she also began volunteering as a Special Olympic basketball coach and has been since 2016.
Lauryn is originally from Stoutsville, graduating from Logan Elm High School. Being local, she has expressed how excited she is to get her head coaching start so close to home. She has also helped with both Heidelberg University basketball camps as well as camps at Logan Elm.
To end, Coach VanHoose expanded on her enthusiasm, “I am very excited to get started to work on the future of the OCU women’s basketball program. I am really looking forward to getting to work with and inspire young athletes to do God’s will as well as to pursue their own personal goals outside of basketball.”
“On behalf of Ohio Christian University, I am thrilled Coach Lauryn VanHoose has joined the Trailblazers! As I spent time getting to know her, it quickly became clear that she would be an excellent fit to lead the program,” said Director of Athletics, George Arroyo Jr. “What set her apart is her desire to impact student-athletes spiritually and in their personal growth. Her emphasis on success, culture, relationships, and recruitment aligns with what we are looking for in a coach. We are excited to begin a new era in women’s basketball under Coach VanHoose!”
