Director of Athletics David Williams has announced creation of a committee to assist in the search for a head women’s basketball coach.
Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Women’s Administrator Dr. Candice Lee is chairing the committee. Dr. Lee was a women’s basketball student-athlete at Vanderbilt from 1998-2002. She has earned three degrees from Vanderbilt while having increased responsibilities within the Department of Athletics.
Others members of the committee are Dr. Emile Townes, Dr. Ann Price, Margaret Behm, Renee Mackin, Chanell Thomas and Caroline Williams Hipps.
Dr. Townes, an avid sports enthusiast, is dean of Vanderbilt’s Divinity School. Dr. Price is associate dean for Alumni Affairs at the Vanderbilt Medical Center and is a member of the university’s Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Price served on the men’s golf search committee in 2013.
Margaret Behm is an attorney with Dodson Parker Behm & Caparella and is general counsel for the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency in Nashville and the Metropolitan Transit Authority. She helped bring the 2014 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship to Nashville. Renee Mackin is a veteran member of Vanderbilt’s athletic staff
Chanell Thomas is a 2005 Vanderbilt graduate now senior assistant director in Vanderbilt’s financial aid department. She is a former student-athlete and director of operations with the Vanderbilt women’s basketball program. Caroline Williams Hipps earned all-SEC honors as a Commodore student-athlete from 2003-2007.
“The charge to this committee is to bring finalist candidates to the chancellor (Nicholas Zeppos) and myself,” Williams said in his announcement. “We are very pleased with the diverse expertise of this group and have every confidence they will deliver outstanding finalists. They have already been meeting and we are encouraged by the very positive response we are receiving from top coaches around the country.”
