Vachon and Curry Promoted at Maine

University of Maine head basketball coach Richard Barron has announced the promotion of assistant coaches Amy Vachon and Edniesha Curry.

Vachon will transition into the role of associate head coach while Curry will become Maine’s second assistant with a focus on individual player development.

“I am very happy to announce that Amy Vachon and Edniesha Curry have been promoted on our staff,” said Barron. “Amy has been instrumental in our resurgence with the women’s basketball team and has proven an invaluable asset to me, to our players, and to our department. Amy will continue to coordinate our recruiting efforts and assist in all areas.

“Edniesha has brought great energy and passion to our program and will be a tremendous mentor and teacher for our young team next year. Eddie has a terrific basketball mind and eats, drinks, and sleeps the game. She is a tremendous asset to me and I appreciate the impact she has made on our team and staff.”

Vachon will enter her sixth year with the team and continue to serve as the recruiting coordinator as well as focus on developing Maine’s guards.

“I am very grateful to Coach Richard Barron for this opportunity,” said Vachon. “I am proud of what we have accomplished in the last five years and look forward to continuing the excellence of University of Maine women’s basketball with America East Championships and trips to the NCAA tournament. The University of Maine has always been a special place to me and I am honored to be able to continue to be a part of Black Bear Nation.”

Curry, entering her second season with the program, will focus on individual player skill development.

“I’m grateful for the promotion and Coach Barron’s confidence in me after one season here with the women’s basketball program. I look forward to our continued growth and championship culture.”

“I am also very happy that we have Mallory Benard back,” added Barron. “Having our own sport performance coach has made a tremendous difference in our team and our culture. Mallory works incredibly hard and is very thoughtful in her approach to our players which is very personal and targeted. This is a great staff and they make me and our players better everyday.
