UWGB staff complete

Green Bay women’s basketball head coach Kevin Borseth has announced the completion of his coaching staff, naming John Barnes Associate Head Coach and former Green Bay women’s basketball player Heather Golden, Director of Basketball Operations.

Barnes spent the 2011-12 season as Borseth’s assistant at University of Michigan, helping guide the Wolverines to its NCAA Tournament appearance and 20-12 record while compiling the program’s fourth 20-win season. Barnes was also an assistant at University of Wisconsin from 2010-11 where his duties included focusing on offensive efficiency, recruiting, player development and scouting.

Prior to his assistant duties in the Big Ten, Barnes was Borseth’s predecessor as the head coach at Michigan Tech University from 2003-10. While at Michigan Tech, Barnes led his team to winning records every season, compiling an overall record of 156-55 while leading the Huskies to the NCAA Division II Championship five times. In addition, Barnes led his team to back-to-back Elite Eight appearances (2009 and 2010) and was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year three times in addition to earning WBCA Regional Coach of the Year honors in 2010.

Golden returns to her Alma Mater as Green Bay’s Director of Basketball Operations. The De Pere, Wis. native played for the Phoenix from 2007-11, playing in 95 contests while starting 27. Hampered by knee injuries throughout her career, Golden entered Green Bay’s contest against Southeast Missouri State Dec. 10 after rehabbing her fifth knee surgery. The standing ovation from those in attendance along with Golden’s three minutes of play, marked one of the most memorable moments of the 2010-11 campaign.

Golden received the JoAnne Jennings Award during her senior year at Green Bay and was also the recipient of the first-ever Carol Hammerle Scholarship, given to a women’s basketball player for her dedication and leadership.

Borseth is very familiar with Golden, having recruited the De Pere High School Second Team All-State selection and Bay Conference Player of the Year.

On April 11, Borseth announced his decision to retain assistant coaches Amanda Leonhard-Perry and Sarah Bronk on his staff. Leonhard-Perry begins her fifth season with Green Bay while Bronk enters her sixth season as an assistant with the Phoenix.
