UTSA Hires Assistant

Head women’s basketball coach Lubomyr Lichonczak announced the addition of Ela Mukosiej as the program’s newest assistant coach on Thursday. Her appointment is effective immediately.

“We are very happy to welcome Ela as our newest assistant coach," Lichonczak said. "She comes to us with a wealth of experience at the professional level having played in Spain, Sweden and Poland. Ela is very familiar with the international game and we hope to benefit from that experience as she will take charge of our international recruiting efforts.”

Mukosiej comes to the Alamo City having spent the past six years playing professionally overseas. The Poland native concluded her career with the MKK Siedlce team as she led the club to a 22-2 overall record and was an instrumental part of the team’s success in becoming the top Polish League.

Her professional playing career landed her a spot on the Polish National Team in the summer of 2014. Prior to that, she played for AZS OPTeam Rzeszow, Tecza Leszno and Lotos Gdynia in Poland, Eskilstuna Basket in Sweden and C.R.E.F. Hola Madrid in Spain.

Before playing professionally, Mukosiej played two seasons at Seton Hall where she was an honorable mention All-Big East selection during the 2006-07 season. That same year, she was tabbed Big East Player of the Week four times and was selected as the Junior Female Athlete of the Year and A Clutch Player by the program’s coaching staff.

Muksosiej attended Jefferson College the two years prior to that and was named an NJCAA honorale mention All-American. She earned honorable mention all-region and all-region academic team accolades as a freshman.
