As USC Upstate women’s basketball continues with its summer training, head coach Jason Williams and his staff are excited to announce Haley Horstman as the newest member of the coaching staff. Horstman joins the women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach following her time at the University of Findlay.
Coach Williams expressed his excitement in hiring Horstman saying, “Haley is a tremendous addition to our staff. She is a rising star and someone who is a hard worker. We hit a home run with this addition to our staff; she has a great pulse for recruiting the mid-west and will help us on the court as well. Most importantly she is a person of great character who our kids can emulate.”
Horstman comes to USC Upstate after serving as the Assistant Coach at the University of Findlay for the past year. While coaching for the Oilers, Horstman not only helped with on court success, but played a vital role in recruiting, academic achievement, team development, and community service involvement. During the 2023 season, Horstman helped four Oilers get named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Horstman was responsible for opponent scouting, film breakdowns, and defensive strategies.
Prior to her time at the University of Findlay, Horstman occupied the role of Interim Head Coach for Tiffin University’s women’s basketball program after she was joined the staff as an assistant coach in June of 2021. During her interim position at Tiffin, Horstman helped sign five incoming freshmen while managing the program’s resources and budget, post season workouts, managing scholarships, and conducting volunteer and fundraising activities.
Horstman started her coaching career at Bluffton University as a graduate assistant following the completion of her Master’s degree in higher business administration.
During her collegiate career, Horstman was a four-year starter at the University of Findlay and served as a captain during her junior and senior seasons. Her senior year, Horstman hit the 1,000 point mark. In addition to her on court success, Horstman racked up accolades such as being a three-time Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic Excellence Award winner, being named a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Team Award winner (2018) and making it onto the Dean’s List every semester from 2014-2021, finishing with a 3.60 GPA
“I am extremely grateful to be at USC Upstate and have the opportunity to work for Coach Williams and his staff. He is building something special here, and I am excited to be a part of that. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and getting involved in the USC Upstate community”, said Horstman.
