USC Upstate hires assistant

The USC Upstate Athletic Department and Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tammy George announced the hiring of Jason Rasnake as an assistant women’s basketball coach Tuesday.

Rasnake will assist in all aspects of the program. He comes to Upstate after spending the last eight seasons at N.C. State as part of the women’s basketball program. He was with the Wolfpack for a total of 11 years, serving two years as one of the program’s dedicated team managers after starting out with N.C. State as a member of the scout team.

"I am ecstatic about having Jason join our staff," George said. "The time he spent at N.C. State under legendary coach Kay Yow and Kellie Harper have been valuable to him as he has gained a wealth of knowledge about the game which will serve in the growth of our program."

During his time with the Wolfpack, Rasnake assisted in multiple facets of the women’s basketball program with a large focus on scouting and film breakdown.

"Jason, his wife Jennifer and daughter Skylar are a wonderful family and I am proud that they are now a part of the Upstate basketball family," George said. "The strengths he brings will be a welcomed addition to our staff. I am thrilled to have someone with his energy, work ethic and desire to excel join our program."

The Chapel Hill, N.C., native graduated from N.C. State in 2005 with a degree in communication with a concentration in communication media. He went on to marry former Wolfpack player Jennifer Filipowski in May 2009.

"In the short time I have been on campus, I have felt welcomed by all of the Upstate players and staff," Rasnake said. "There is a lot of energy surrounding the program right now and I look forward to helping the team accomplish its goals for the season."
