University of Alabama in Huntsville Hires Assistant

Head coach Andrea Lemmond and the University of Alabama in Huntsville women’s basketball program announced the hiring of Shelby Campbell to be Lemmond’s top assistant ahead of the upcoming 2014-15 season.

Campbell joins the UAH staff after playing for four seasons at Samford where Lemmond served as an assistant prior to joining the Chargers this summer.

"I am thrilled to have Shelby join the Charger Family as part of our coaching staff," Lemmond said. "I have no doubt that the passion, enthusiasm and intensity that she brought to the game as a player will translate into her coaching career."

Campbell was a decorated player at Samford, earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2012 SoCon Tournament in addition to being named an all-conference performer that season along with capturing a position on the All-Freshman Team in 2011.

Campbell’s efforts helped lead Samford to back-to-back SoCon titles along with consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.

A native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Campbell starred at national power Blackman High School where she was a McDonald’s All-American nominee while also earning the status of being the 39th-ranked point guard in the country by ESPNU.
