UNCW Women’s Basketball adds Seidel as Special Assistant to the Head Coach

UNCW Women’s Basketball Head Coach Nicole Woods has added Jake Seidel to the coaching staff as a Special Assistant to the Head Coach. 

Seidel comes to UNCW after spending one year with the Lady Colonials at Robert Morris University in Moon Township, Pa. At Robert Morris, Seidel was an assistant coach with his primary duties including breakdown of practice and game film, coordinating team travel and logistics, producing scouting reports, and player development.

“Jake is a jack of all trades. He’s come into our program having a wealth of knowledge in the areas we need assistance,” said Woods. “He’s a hard worker and eager to help in any way. We are grateful to have him.”

Prior to joining Robert Morris, Seidel was the Director of Basketball Operations for the boys’ national team at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kan. He was responsible for coordinating team travel and logistics, camp operations, game operations, marketing operations, and coordinating social media.During his tenure, he was a part of the 26-2 top ranked team in the nation that ended the year as NIBC Champions and made two GEICO Nationals appearances. Over the course of two seasons, Seidel was also a part of the staff that developed three McDonald’s All-Americans, 14 Division I signees, a Gatorade National Player of the Year and three NBA players: Matas Buzelis (Chicago Bulls), Gradey Dick (Toronto Raptors), and Bobi Klintman (Detroit Pistons).

Before joining Sunrise Christian Academy, Seidel served as a student assistant at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan. for the men’s basketball team under Head Coach Gregg Marshall. During his tenure, Wichita State reached third in the national ranking, made appearances in NCAA March Madness, and reached the NIT Final Four. Wichita State produced 13 professional players, including two current NBA Players, Dexter Dennis (Dallas Mavericks) and Austin Reaves (Los Angeles Lakers), plus Landry Shamet, a 2018 NBA first round draft pick. 

Seidel started his coaching career as a student assistant at Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, Ill. He was responsible for assisting in practice and was the video coordinator for the men’s and women’s games. Seidel was a part of the men’s NJCAA Region IV championship team in 2016 and the women’s NJCAA Region IV championship team in 2017.

Over the last two summers, Seidel gained professional experience with the NBA Summer League and the Orlando Magic in Las Vegas, Nev. As a team assistant, Seidel was responsible for assisting in team drills in practice and attending to bench needs during games. Seidel remains active in the basketball community, as he has previously volunteered at USA Basketball events, Under Armour (UAA) events, and the The Basketball Tournament (TBT), along with running a 3-on-3 basketball league during his time in Wichita.
