University of Maryland Baltimore County head women’s basketball coach Phil Stern has been placed on leave. There are no details on the cause of the leave, and UMBC cannot comment on personnel issues. Assistant coach Carlee Dewey is now serving as the acting head coach.

Stern is in his seventeenth season as the Retrievers head coach, and entered the season with a 194-291 record. His team is currently 6-5 on the season.
