Tsitouris named Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Mars Hill

Mars Hill Athletics has named Emry Tsitouris as the new head women’s basketball coach, effective immediately.

“I would like to thank President Floyd, Rick Baker, and the entire search committee for the opportunity to become a part of the Mars Hill family” Tsitouris stated. “I am humbled and excited to lead the women’s basketball program.”

Tsitouris spent the last two seasons at Catawba College as an assistant coach.  The Indians reached back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, appeared in the NCAA Semifinals for the first-time in program history, and developed several All-SAC selections, including the SAC Defensive Player of the Year.

While at Catawba, she developed her recruiting prowess by identifying and attracting top talent to the program, monitored and assisted student-athletes’ academic performances, prepared and executed all recruiting visits, and assisted with game scheduling.  She was also responsible for fundraising, creating camp content and promotions as well as handling the logistics of meals and travel for road contests, and was the head of their social media presence.

“After stepping on campus for the first time, it became clear that Mars Hill is a tremendous opportunity with unlimited potential, not only for this program, but for the athletic department as a whole,” Tsitouris said.

Baker stated, “Coach Tsitouris is a great addition to the Mars Hill family. Her drive and enthusiasm will make our women’s basketball program succeed. We are excited to have Emry join our staff and take the helm of our women’s basketball program”.

Prior to joining Catawba in 2020, she served as a Graduate Assistant Coach at Wingate from 2018 to the spring of 2020 where she performed a majority of the aforementioned duties and worked closely with the guards and post players on the team.  During her stint at Wingate, Tsitouris helped lead the Bulldogs to a second place SAC finish in 2019, was the tournament runner-up, as well as an NCAA Semifinalist.

With her strength in player development, she guided and developed several Bulldogs to All-SAC honors and numerous career accolades.

Tsitouris stated, “Ultimately, we want to build a program that all Mars Hill fans will be proud of, for how we perform, how our student-athletes represent Mars Hill University and how our togetherness and determination to hard work will lead to on-court success. Additionally, we want to set high program values and standards on the court, in the classroom and the community that will create a road map for the Lions to move upward, be competitive for South Atlantic Conference titles and ultimately NCAA tournament berths.”

During her playing career, she was a standout, playing three seasons at USC Aiken and closing out her career at Belmont Abbey.  During her first year with the Pacers, she was selected the Peach Belt Freshman of the Year and was a Third Team All-Conference selection.  In her final season with the Crusaders, she was named a Conference Carolinas Second Team All-Conference honoree.

Tsitouris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication and Management in 2018 and later obtained her Master of Arts in Sports Management in 2020.

“I look forward to building relationships with our current team and recruiting student-athletes to our basketball program,” Tsitouris added. “I am excited to get there, meet the team and immerse myself into The Hill.”
