Newberry College head women’s basketball coach Sean Page has announced the hiring of Joanna Tincher as the Wolves’ assistant coach entering the 2012-13 season.
Tincher comes to Newberry after serving as head women’s basketball coach at Converse College in Spartanburg from 2008 to 2012. She was in charge of all coaching, recruiting, academic monitoring and budgeting for the Valkyries’ program. She also oversaw Converse’s intramural and fitness programs, managed student workers for the weight room and was the on-site game manager for the Valkyries’ other sports. She organized and directed the third annual Girls Day on Converse’s campus, designed to give over 300 girls from ages eight through 15 their own day on a college campus.
She also brings professional playing experience to the Wolves’ bench, having played for Nuoro Lokomotiv in the Sardigna region of Italy from 2007 to 2008. She helped lead Nuoro Lokomotiv to a national runner-up finish, while also coaching the under-15 and under-18 teams for the club.
Tincher served as the assistant coach at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for over three seasons from 2004 to 2007. She played at Palmetto State rival Francis Marion University from 2000 to 2004 and was named the Patriots’ MVP in her senior season.
