Thousand Resigns As Edgewood’s Women’s Basketball Coach

Edgewood College’s Casey Thousand has stepped down from her position as the Eagles’ head women’s basketball coach. Thousand, the program’s longest tenured head coach after seven seasons, will depart Edgewood College to accept another coaching position.

“I’d like to thank Coach Thousand for her commitment to Edgewood College, our Athletics Department and our women’s basketball players,” said Director of Athletics Al Brisack. “Casey has worked very hard to build up our women’s basketball program. Over the last seven years, there has been a great deal for the program to be proud of. Casey will be missed but, we share in her excitement for this new chapter of her coaching career.”

Thousand completed her tenure at Edgewood College with a career record of 83-97, including a 74-57 mark in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Her 83 wins is the most among 12 previous Eagle head coaches. Thousand’s teams reached the NACC Tournament four times, advancing to the semifinals in 2013-14. That 2013-14 team marked the Eagles’ best single season record under Thousand, going 15-12 overall and 14-6 in the NACC.

“Edgewood College will always be a special place to me,” said Thousand. “I would like to thank Al Brisack, [Assistant Director of Athletics] Suann Saltzberry my coaching colleagues and the entire Edgewood College community for the past seven years. Their leadership and support has helped me grow professionally and personally. I will especially miss the relationships gained from the players, both past and present. We have a talented group of ladies coming in this fall who will be a great addition to the solid group of returners. Change is always difficult, but it is time for me to pursue new opportunities in my professional career. I’ll never forget my Edgewood College family.”

Thousand came to Edgewood College in 2009 for her first head coaching position after serving as an assistant coach at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis.

The search for Edgewood College’s next women’s basketball coach will begin immediately. “I am excited to bring in an outstanding coach, ready to build on a solid foundation,” added Brisack. “We have a strong core of returners and a good recruiting class. There is a lot to love about the future of Eagle women’s basketball!”
