After a national search for a new assistant coach, the Texas Tech women’s basketball program announced on Monday that Katie Hensle would become the newest addition to the Lady Raiders staff along with graduate assistant Layne Reeves
Hensle spent the last four years as the head coach at John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas where the Lady Cardinals advanced to the regional round of the TAPPS 5A state playoffs in her first two seasons at the helm. The Lady Cardinals advanced to the TAPPS 5A State Championship game in 2011, finishing as the state runner-up. She leaves John Paul with an overall record of 107-39.
She fills the space left by Brooke Stoehr, who ended a three-year career at Tech when she became the co-head coach at Northwestern State (Louisiana) in April. Hensle’s primary responsibilities will include working with the point guards as well as scouting and recruiting.
Reeves comes home to Lubbock after spending her collegiate career at Nebraska under head coach Connie Yori. Reeves spent three seasons in Lincoln but had to end her career early after several knee surgeries. She ended her career with 25 games played, hitting 39 percent from the field and 52 percent from 3-point range while scoring 33 points.
