Teelah Grimes Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Robert Morris

Robert Morris University women’s basketball head coach Charlie Buscaglia has announced the hiring of Teelah Grimes as an assistant coach.

“My relationship with Teelah Grimes started all the way back in 2002, as it was early in my career as an assistant,” said Buscaglia. “She was my recruit that I signed, and I was very excited to coach her in her college career. Before she started her freshman year with us however, I embarked on the journey of becoming an assistant coach at Robert Morris and we unfortunately parted ways.

“We have always kept in touch and I have enjoyed learning about all the amazing core goals that she lives by,” continued Buscaglia. “It’s very exciting to reunite with Coach Grimes and have her on our staff. She is a very strong fit for our program’s values, and is ready to serve our program well.”

Grimes arrives in Moon Township from the University of Valley Forge, a NCAA Division III institution located on the east side of the Keystone State in Phoenixville. She spent two seasons as an assistant coach with the Patriots, helping lead them to a 34-14 overall record during that time. In 2017-18, Valley Forge – in just its second full year as a NCAA Division III member – won the American College Athletic Association (ACAA) championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

After spending her freshman year at Manhattan College, Grimes played her final three seasons at Dowling (N.Y.) College. She was an All-East Coast Conference (ECC) Second Team selection at small forward as a senior and was the ECC’s NCAA Division II National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) representative. Grimes also was the ECC’s NCAA Woman of the Year nominee following her senior year.

From 2012-16, Grimes served as the junior varsity head coach of the girls basketball team at Smithtown (N.Y.) Christian School.

Grimes graduated from Dowling in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in special education. In 2010, she earned her Master of Science degree from Dowling in literacy education, and in 2016 achieved a second Master’s degree from Liberty University in sport management with a concentration in sport administration.
