Albany State University Head Women’s Basketball Coach Akia Summers (Stanton) has announced that she will step down from her position to pursue other opportunities.

“We are grateful to Coach Summers for her contributions to the program,” said Dr. Kristene Kelly, Director of Athletics. “We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Assistant Coach Todd Triplett will assume the role of interim head coach for the 2025–26 season. A national search for the next head coach will take place at the conclusion of the season.

“Our priority is supporting our student-athletes throughout this transition,” said Dr. Kelly. “Coach Triplett’s existing relationships and understanding of the program will help maintain stability this season.”
