Stephanie Stoglin-Reed, Ashley Jones join Charleston Southern Women’s Basketball coaching staff

Charleston Southern head women’s basketball coach Clarisse Garcia announced the addition of Stephanie Stoglin-Reed and Ashley Jones to the coaching staff on Tuesday afternoon.

Stoglin-Reed will serve as the Bucs’ associate head coach and comes to CSU by way of Southern Miss, with previous experience also at Marshall, Kansas State, Texas State and North Texas. Jones joins the Bucs as an assistant coach and brings experience by way of the ATL Bucks Basketball, Nike ProSkills EYBL Basketball and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

“When it came to hiring a staff, I wanted to be surrounded by great, high-character people who will help me build something special, the right way,” Garcia said. “It was important that they embody the mission and values of CSU, as well as the overall vision for the program. I wanted people with unmatched passion, energy, and enthusiasm, who will push our players hard, and love them even harder. I have found that in both Stephanie Stoglin-Reed and Ashley Jones. They are incredibly multifaceted and dynamic women, and I am beyond excited to have them join our CSU Family!”

Stoglin-Reed brings nearly a decade of collegiate coaching experience and spent the last two seasons as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern Miss. She has experience as an assistant at schools in Conference USA, the Big 12 Conference and Sun Belt Conference.

“I would like to thank Clarisse Garcia and Jeff Barber for an incredible opportunity to be a part of the greatness that is CSU,” Stoglin-Reed said. “Clarisse is someone who I’ve always respected and thought very highly of as a person and coach! Her zeal for God and life is exactly what we need as we build culture, vision and make powerful change on and off the court! I look forward to developing our current players and bringing the best and brightest to CSU campus! My family and I are looking forward to our transition to the Charleston area!”

In her time with the Golden Eagles, she coached the post players and led the recruiting efforts, which included the signing and development of 2021 Conference USA Freshman of the Year Melyia Grayson. Stoglin-Reed also coached forward Respect Leaphart to Second Team All-Conference USA honors, helping her improve her numbers from 6.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game in 2018-19 to 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in 2019-20. Prior to her time in Hattiesburg, Stoglin-Reed spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Marshall University, where she played an instrumental role in bringing the top-rated recruiting class in Conference USA history to Huntington in 2017. In addition to her work on the recruiting trail, she coached the post players and served as the academic adviser for the Thundering Herd. Stoglin-Reed also spent one season on the staff at Kansas State, where she helped the Wildcats return to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2011-12 season, reaching the Round of 32 in the process. She coached First Team All-Big 12 center Brianna Lewis, who was selected 23rd overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2017 WNBA Draft. She spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant at Texas State, where she helped lead the Bobcats to a 17-15 record, including 11 wins in Sun Belt play.

Stoglin-Reed began her collegiate coaching career on the men’s side as a director of player development at North Texas, where she handled all film exchange, managed all recruiting correspondence and led individual film sessions, in addition to be an academic liaison for the Mean Green.

Stoglin-Reed played collegiately at Kentucky (2000-02), Memphis (2002-04) and Houston Baptist (2004-05). At HBU, she was the Red River Athletic Conference Player and Newcomer of the Year and an NAIA All-American. Stoglin-Reed received her bachelor’s degree from Houston Baptist University in 2005, graduating as a double major in art and business.

“Stephanie is an exceptional person who relates well with others,” Garcia said. “A former standout player herself, she is someone who will push our players and help them to be their absolute best. As a mom of two amazing children, she knows how to bring wisdom, perspective, and experience to mentor our players with care. Her replete experience will enable her to build a great resume of success here at CSU as our Associate Head Coach.”

Jones brings 10-plus years of administrative and coaching experience within collegiate athletic departments and youth athletic organizations and has worked in multiple levels throughout her professional career.

“I am extremely grateful to join Coach Garcia and Buc Nation,” Jones said. “I believe in Coach Garcia’s vision for the program and excited to start this journey with her and the staff! It is a blessing to have an opportunity to work with a staff, team, and athletic department that believes in doing the little things every day to serve and lead. I can’t wait to get to work! GO BUCS!”

She furthered her education at the Steiner Education Group in Arlington, Texas, at the Texas Center for Massage Therapy, graduating in 2016.

“Ashley Jones is equally amazing in personality and character,” Garcia said. “Her overall drive to be excellent combined with her passion for the game are contagious. She is someone who comes to us with a great deal of experience in relating to players from her time in both the college and AAU ranks. She has a knack for identifying talent and developing players to compete to win. Building deep relationships everywhere she has been will enable her to be a great recruiting coordinator for us to help bring in players with great talent and character.”
