Head women’s basketball coach Caitlin Hadzimichalis announced Wednesday the hiring of Lizzy Spindler as the new graduate assistant coach for the Monarchs.
“We’re super excited to welcome Lizzy aboard,” said Hadzimichalis. “She’s a proven competitor and scorer at both the high school and college level. Her knowledge, energy, and passion for the game are very obvious. Our players are going have an excellent resource and will be able to draw from Lizzy’s college experience immediately.”
“I was pumped when Coach (Hadzimichalis) gave me the opportunity to be the graduate assistant at King’s,” said Spindler. “I’m beyond excited to start this new chapter.”
Spindler recently attained her B.S. in Human Development from Binghamton University, where she was a member of the Division I Bearcats women’s basketball team. Spindler had a strong career at Binghamton until an injury halted her career in 2018-19. She earned Binghamton AD Honor Roll honors, and also was a member of the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll as well. During her tenure, she posted six games of 10 points or more and chalked up a career-high of 17 points against Rider University December 8, 2018.
Prior to her time at Binghamton, Spindler was a four-year letter-winner at local Riverside High School, where she was a All-Region First Teamer during her junior and senior seasons by the Scranton Times. She also was a three-time Lackawanna League All-Star, earning Lackawanna League Division III Player of the Year as a senior.
Spindler has some coaching experience, as she has assisted the coaching staff at the Binghamton University Camp from July 2017 through last year, while most recently coaching junior varsity basketball at her alma mater of Riverside this winter. She also served as as an Academic Advising Intern at Binghamton during her senior semester, assisting academic success strategies for BU student-athletes.
“What made this position at King’s exciting is that I had the opportunity to be involved with athletics,” said Spindler. “Athletics are important to me because I played basketball my whole life and when I graduated from Binghamton University I could not see myself leaving the sport I had a passion for all this time. In addition, this position gave me the chance to further my education, so it was the perfect fit for me.”
