South Alabama Athletic Director Dr. Joel Erdmann announced a change in leadership in the women’s basketball program, relieving Terry Fowler of his duties as head coach of the program on Wednesday.
“Terry has served the University with distinction and always operated with the well-being of his student-athletes at the forefront of his actions,” Erdmann said. “He has positively impacted all of us, we thank him and wish him all the best moving forward.”
The change came after South Alabama (7-23) fell 59-44 to Georgia State in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships on Tuesday. Fowler posted a 129-173 record in ten years at the helm of the program with a pair of postseason tournament berths including 2019.
The Jags finished 25-11 during the 2019 season and made the Sun Belt Conference championship game before falling to UALR 57-56 with a chance to win at the buzzer. They qualified for the WNIT that same year and won their opening round matchup with Lamar, before falling to Wyoming on the road.
