Loyola Marymount University head women’s basketball coach Aarika Hughes welcomes Demetrius Smith to the Bluff as one of the program’s assistant coaches, announced by the head coach on Wednesday.

Smith has most recently coached the varsity girl’s team at East Valley High School, where he is also the assistant Athletic Director. Smith has developed and coached two All-League players, the first that East Valley High has seen in seven years. Prior to coaching at East Valley, Smith was an assistant coach at Life Oak Cliff High School from 2017-19, where he worked on player development and skills training.

Smith, a former NBA G-league player, received a Master’s of Education from the University of Southern California in 2012. Smith played for the Washington Wizards’s affiliate, Capital City Go-Go.
