Skaar Named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota

Jordan Skaar is the assistant women’s basketball coach at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, a position he has held since the 2020-21 season.

Prior to his arrival at Saint Mary’s, Skaar spent three seasons as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Valley City State University, located in Valley City, N.D.

In his first season at VCSU in 2017-18, the Vikings set a school record with 25 wins, won the NSAA Conference Tournament, and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the fifth time in school history. Valley City State University finished the year ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches’ Poll. VCSU finished the year with a 25-5 overall record and set school records for wins (25), winning percentage (.833), scoring average (76.5 points/game), shooting percentage (.463) and free throw percentage (.769).

In 2018-19, Skaar helped the Vikings to a third-place finish in the North Star Athletic Association with a 10-4 record, while finishing 14-14 overall.
In his third year on staff in 2019-20, Valley City State finished fourth-place finish in the NSAA standings with a 9-5 mark, while going 12-14 overall.

Skaar joined the Viking staff after two seasons as an assistant women’s basketball coach at UW-La Crosse. He was heavily involved in most aspects of the program and helped the Eagles to a 16-11 record in his final season.

A native of Trempealeau, Wis., Skaar graduated from the University of Dubuque (Iowa) in 2009 with a degree in health and wellness recreation. Skaar worked five seasons as an assistant girls basketball coach for Bangor (Wis.) High School, before joining the UW-La Crosse staff in 2015.

As a student-athlete, Skaar was a pitcher for the University of Dubuque baseball team throughout his collegiate career. He also worked as head baseball coach for two seasons at Galesville-Ettrick-Trempealeau (Wis.) High School.
