Kari Kerkhoff has been named the Associate Head Coach for SIUE women’s basketball, according to Head Coach Paula Buscher.
Kerkhoff rejoins Buscher after spending the last four seasons overseeing the recruiting efforts at Bradley University. Her four seasons at Bradley were some of the most successful seasons in the school’s history. Bradley collected 71 wins over the four seasons and made two appearances in the Women’s Basketball Invitational, including the team’s first-ever postseason victory at Louisville.
Kerkhoff spent six seasons overall at Bradley. Her presence has helped the Braves make incremental improvements. Coming off a nine-win season, Bradley won 12 games during the 2006-07 season and was victorious in the first round of the MVC Tournament, ending a 10-year drought at the league tournament. Bradley posted back-to-back double-digit victories in MVC play during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.
A 2002 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, Kerkhoff earned a bachelor of science in secondary education, while starting in 50 games during her collegiate career. A four-year letter winner with UNO, she played two seasons for the Mavericks under Coach Buscher.
She moved into the coaching ranks during the 2002-03 season as a graduate assistant at Wisconsin-Stout.
She then joined the Michigan Tech coaching staff for two seasons as an assistant coach where she helped recruit the 2004-05 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the Year. Kerkhoff helped the Huskies to a 21-8 record in her final season, including 15 consecutive wins and a third-place GLIAC finish.
In 2005-06, she worked as an assistant coach at Elon helping the Phoenix improve to 12 victories after earning just four the previous season.
