Silver-Martin named Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Morgan State

Head coach Ed Davis, Jr. announced the addition of Janelle Silver-Martin to the Morgan State women’s basketball staff, as an assistant coach.

A 2016 graduate of Morgan State, Silver-Martin returns to her alma mater after spending the previous two seasons as the director of basketball operations at the University of Richmond.

Prior to her stint at Richmond, she served as an assistant coach at Valdosta State during the 2020-21 campaign. Silver-Martin would help the Blazers to an 18-4 record, a Gulf South Conference championship, and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Tournament.

Silver-Martin also spent a season as the video coordinator at Florida Gulf Coast University in 2019-20, when the Eagles went 30-3 and advanced to the championship of the Atlantic Sun Tournament before the season was suspended due to COVID-19. FGCU’s 30 wins that season were tied for the third-most of any team in Division I.

Silver-Martin’s first collegiate coaching experience came at Washington Adventist University in 2018-19. She served as an assistant coach with the Shock, as the NAIA program compiled a 20-10 record.

A native of Washington, D.C., Silver-Martin began her collegiate playing career at Division II Ohio Valley University, where she appeared in 27 games during the 2012-13 season.

She continued her undergraduate years at Morgan State, playing in 41 games from 2014-16. Silver-Martin would graduate from Morgan with a degree in public relations in 2016.

Silver-Martin started her coaching career following graduation from Morgan State, as she served as an assistant girls’ basketball coach at her high school alma mater, Northwood High School, in Silver Spring, Md., in 2016-17.

A year later Silver-Martin resumed her playing career in 2017-18, appearing in 29 games at St. Thomas University, as she returned to school to pursue a Master’s degree in sports administration. She would graduate from St. Thomas in 2018.

Silver-Martin is married to Thomas Martin and has a daughter, Skylar, and stepson, Thomas Jr.
